May 4, 2018

Happy Friday - May the Fourth be with you! If you are reading this week’s paper hoping for a pun-free column, you are looking in Alderaan places this week. Speaking of Star Wars, we don’t understand how Darth Vader could be Leia’s father. They don’t even Luke alike.

TONIGHT! The Manitoulin Community Choir has rescheduled their spring concert from last weekend for tonight, Friday, May 4: 7:30pm at the Kagawong Park Centre. Admission is $10, or $20 per family. Don’t miss it!

A quick heads up about the planned power outage on May 6th. Power will be out in the morning for several hours, so plan accordingly.

We don’t seem to have any birthdays to announce this week, but if you have a friend or family member you would like to embarrass… uh… honour, with a mention in this column, send us a name and date via email.

Why did the Star Wars movies 4, 5, 6 come before episodes 1, 2, 3? Because in charge of directing, Yoda was.

Spotted in downtown Kagawong! Like a rare bird returning to its ancestral nesting grounds, local chocolate consumers have swooped in and settled down for a long, sweet season.

Another business is opening its doors in our favourite village: Storyopolis Books and Blooms is holding its grand opening on Saturday. Stop in for snacks and prizes and the chance to meet local authors.

Hey Daddy-o! The wait is over for all you hep cats. Word from the bird, the annual Angel Bus fundraiser is finally here! Kick up your heels at the Spring Wing Ding on Saturday at the Park Centre. Come as you are or, for the more adventurous, dress up in your favourite decade. Ginchiest gal or guy gets a prize! Don’t forget to check out the fabulous silent auction featuring 15 amazing items, including a Richard Edwards original! Tickets are $15 at the door. Fun for all the jive turkeys out there - though we’re not sure the KGB will make it through the door.

Catch the Classic School of Dance’s performance of Aladdin on Saturday at the high school in M’Chigeeng. Tickets are $10 at the door and children under 10 are free! Curtains open at 2:30pm.

We could make more Star Wars puns, but we wouldn’t want to force it. We’ll leave it at this for today: May the fourth be with you because tomorrow is the revenge of the fifth. Have a great week!
