May 25, 2018

Being women of many words (some of which we don’t even invent), Team Fergmeijer was asked the other day to settle a heated dispute, by stating the difference between ignorance and apathy. To be honest, we neither knew nor cared.

Do a little dance… it’s Casey B’s 29th birthday this weekend! Happy birthday!

Don’t forget that municipal elections are on the horizon this fall. Consider putting your hat in the ring to help guide and shape the future of the township. Also, you can check the elections Ontario website for information about how to register, and where/when to vote in the upcoming provincial election. Check out https://www.elections.on.ca/en.html

What do a dog and a phone have in common? They both have collar ID. And they can both be found at the Kagawong Canine Society, which meets each Sunday at 1pm at the off-leash dog park on Carter Crescent. Though really, who needs phones when there are cute puppies to entertain you?

If at first you don’t succeed… try, try again. Hydro One has announced another planned power outage this Sunday (May 27th) from 9am to 3pm. Get your tubs filled with water, charge up your devices, and keep your fingers crossed for some nice weather so we can get outside.

For those of you who like to plan ahead, here are a couple of dates to mark on your calendar for the next few months:
June 1st is St. John’s homemade Lasagna dinner at the Park Centre.
June 9th an exciting music event is coming to Kagawong. Featuring many local musicians, you won’t want to miss it! Stay tuned for details.
July 11th is the library’s annual book and bake sale. (The library is always accepting donations of gently used books)
July 20th weekend is Kagawong Summerfest & the first annual Team Fergmeijer Try-athlon.
August 3rd sees the return of the fabulous Mimi O’Bonsawin.
We’ll have more details on all of these in future columns. If you have an event you would like to see here in our trusty column, drop us a line (kagawong@live.ca).

Phew. We’re exhausted just looking at that list. Kagawong doesn’t ever seem to stop, especially this time of year.

Like spring flowers, more new businesses are popping up in Kagawong! Take a walk through the village and welcome some of our newest entrepreneurs to town!

The results of the May 19th euchre tournament are in! As reported to us: in first place was the team of Brad Parkinson and Bill Traynor (also the team with the most loners) who generously donated their prizes back to the club. In second place was the powerhouse team of Mike and Susan Arbour, and in third Pat and Donna made a strong showing. Kal Merrilees and Lily Fourth took (conveniently enough) fourth place. Low score went to Bryan Barker and Bob Cacciotti, with Doris Tustian taking home the door prize.

You know we like to finish with a joke, but this week we couldn’t decide on which one. So, here’s your chance to vote for which joke worked best. Drop us a line or reach out to the Kagawong Facebook page to let us know your favourite, or give us some new material for next week!
What do you call a shoe made out of a banana? A slipper!
How does a squid go into battle? Well armed!
How did the barber win the race? He knew a short cut!
What's orange and sounds like a parrot? A carrot!
Have a great week!
