July is just around the corner! The Anglican Church yard sale, BBQ & bake sale on Saturday, July 2nd will run from 10am to 3pm at the Kagawong Farmer’s Market. Bring yer appetite! On that same day the Recreation Committee will be holding a car wash from 10am to 2pm at the Fire Hall. Later that week, on the 6th, the Billings Library is holding their annual Book & Bake Sale at the Park Centre. Speaking of the Library, did you hear the news about our librarian? She was reading while she was sunbathing and lost track of time. Now she’s very well red.

If you haven’t be out and about, you might have missed the fact that the Esso has their scoop ice cream open for the season. Team Fergmeijer loves the variety of ice cream flavours as well as the different kinds of cones to choose from: plain, sugar, waffle, pine. How do we choose?!

A belated congratulations goes out to Rick and Barb Edwards as they celebrated the 20th anniversary of Edwards Studios. Friends, family and fans joined the Edwards for an evening of fun and frolic in the gallery on the upper level of the Old Mill. Be sure to stop in and wish them another 20 years of success.

It must be summer! Rumour has it the Kagawong Farmer’s Market is set to open on Wednesday. Shopping fan and farming aficionado Jamie Ward says “Check out the fabulous garden goods and handmade crafts, yo.”

Life moves too quickly. All the more reason to make sure you slow down when driving by Bridal Veil Falls. Not only because of the scenery, but also because there’s a higher amount of traffic due to summer visitors. With construction starting on the causeway, there will be even more pedestrians walking about.

Euchre is running each Wednesday night at 7pm at the Park Centre and everyone is welcome to come out for a hand. Last week’s tournament results: 1st place - Fred & Jim, 2nd place - Bev & Sally, 3rd place Lela & Bob, 4th place - Sheila & Graham, Loners Lela & Bob, Low Bea & Lily.

Wow - look at all the stuff going on in Prov this week! I hope they left enough room for everyone else. It would be an awful shame if the editors had to cut some of the other columns short in order to ma

The next library movie night is tomorrow. Bring the kids out to watch Kung Fu Panda 3 on the big screen! Be sure to check the Billings Library Facebook page for more details. Show starts at 7pm and admission is free.

June 10, 2016

Beware that the end of the school year is quickly approaching. It’s that time of year when random happy dances break out at work or in the middle of the street. And the students are excited, too!

Got old electronics or batteries piling up? Now’s your chance to get rid of them in an eco-friendly way! Manitoulin Secondary School’s Go Green committee is holding an e-waste collection tomorrow (June 11th) from 9-3pm at the high school. The committee is also having a plant sale, so be sure to check it out. If you can’t make it Saturday, you can also drop off your electronics June 13-16 from 3-5pm, or another time by appointment. Contact Mrs. Bauer at the high school (705-368-7000) for more information.

After dropping your e-waste off and stocking up on plants, why not wrap up the day with a roast pork dinner at the Park Centre? Saturday night is a fundraising dinner and silent auction in support of Strawberry Point Christian Camp. Nothing says ‘be good to the planet’ quite like eating in a group, therefore minimizing electricity and water use. Though if eating out is good for the environment, that makes Team Fergmeijer Eco-Warriors!

The next movie night is Saturday, June 18 at the library. Be sure to check the Billings Library Facebook page for more details! Show starts at 7pm and admission is free.

A very happy 29th birthday goes out to Audrey who celebrates on Sunday. Have a great day!

June 3, 2016

Team Fergmeijer has been basking just a bit too much in the great weather we’ve been having lately. We popped into the pharmacy to stock up on sunscreen, and the lady in line ahead of us pointed at our faces and asked for a lipstick in that exact shade of red.

Hungry? Don’t want to cook or do dishes? St. John’s Anglican Church is hosting a Lasagna Dinner fundraiser (with home made pies!) TONIGHT (Friday, June 3) from 5-7pm at the Park Centre. Tickets are $14 for adults, $7 for children under 10. Call 705-282-1031 for more information or to reserve your seats!

The Park Centre is still a happenin’ place to be: Zumba continues for two more sessions on Thursdays at 7pm, until June 16. Tai Chi’s last session is Tuesday, June 7 at 6:30pm.
Start gathering up all your old electronics and batteries - Manitoulin Secondary School’s Go Green committee is holding an e-waste collection on June 11th from 9-2pm at the high school.
Saturday night is movie night at the library. This week Whiskey Tango Foxtrot will be on the big screen. Show starts at 7pm and admission is free!

A very happy 29th birthday goes out to two very special people - you know who you are. Team Fergmeijer would consider ourselves lucky to be like you.

Did anyone see the crazy orange shirts walking the highway on Saturday? That was MPP Mike Mantha and his #Mantharays making the 25km walk from Kagawong to Mindemoya, raising awareness (as well as funds and food) for Manitoulin Family Resources.  It was a huge success, and it sounds like plans are already in the works for a repeat next year.

Euchre is running each Wednesday night at 7pm at the Park Centre and everyone is welcome to come out for a hand. Last week’s results are Ladies’ High - Stella, Men’s High - Bob and Phyllis, Ladies’ Low - Lynda, Men’s Low - Muriel, Door prize - Lynda.

Until next week, remember: no matter how much you push the envelope, it’ll still be stationery.
