It looks like Manitoulin’s best-kept secret is out… Kagawong is THE place to be! Congratulations Billings Township on exhibiting the largest population growth in the most recent census: a whopping 20%!  Turns out we’re quaint AND cool. Local conspiracy theorist, Jamie Ward had this to say: “It’s almost as if the Kagawong Gobble Brigade learned how to fill out the census forms, yo!”

Next library movie night will be Saturday, March 4 at 7pm. Check out the Facebook page for more information and trailers.

Main Street Cafe has done it again! They are hosting the amazing musician, Jennifer Holub along with special guests Gravy, and Matt Maranger. The show is on March 4th; get your tickets now as they always sell out quickly.

Happy birthday to Ruth F who started her 29th trip around the sun on Tuesday.

Last week’s euchre scores were: Mike and Susan tied Dorothy & Ted for top spot. Fourth place went to Jim and Fred. Low score went to Candy and Ria. Most loners went to Mike & Susan, with the special prize going to Donna.

Team Fergmeijer’s words of wisdom this week are inspired by the Family Day holiday: every family has one weird relative. If you can’t think of who it is, it’s probably you.

February 17, 2017

Team Fergmeijer has decided that our favourite part of winter might be sitting inside watching it from in front of a roaring fire.

Winterfest was a wonderful success last weekend. Kids of all ages enjoyed the sledding hill, had the chance to experience dog sledding, and topped the day off with maple syrup taffy. Thank you to the organizers and volunteers for putting on this fun, annual event. And a special shout-out to Mother Nature for dumping buckets of snow on us just in time!

Calling all Potter-heads! The library is showing Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them tomorrow night at 7pm. Check out the Facebook page for more information and trailers.

So many birthdays, and this week they span the globe. Happy birthday to Chase C. in Calgary who turned 5 this week, along with his uncle Neil L. in Callander who turned not 5, both on Valentine’s Day! Turning 29 this week are Ben G. in Taiwan and Chris T. in Ottawa. Happy birthday, boys!

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Joyce McShane. She was a special member of the community and her absence will be deeply felt by everyone who knew her.

Last week’s euchre scores were: ladies’ high score - Susan Arbour; men's high score - Elva Lloyd; ladies lone - Sheila Fogal / Phyllis Cacciotti; men's lone - Ken / Mike Arbour; low score - Oliver Koski; special prize - Susan Arbour.

February 10, 2017

One half of Team Fergmeijer received an English paper from a student the other day. It was graded a B minus. The next day, perhaps in an attempt to get a better mark, and in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, the student handed the paper back in with a heart-shaped box of chocolates that said BE MINE. What could be done? The paper was returned to the student the next day with a new note: “Thank you, but it’s still BE MINE-US.”

Brace yourselves…. WINTERFEST IS COMING! Today and tomorrow (February 10 and 11) will be chock-full of activities for snow-lovers of all ages! Come out at 7pm tonight to Games Night for Grown Ups. Board games, card games, even some poker (for-fun bets only, no cash). Saturday from 10am - 2pm head outside for some snowy fun with tobogganing, a bonfire, skating (weather permitting), dog sled demonstrations, maple taffy, vintage snowmobiles and more! When your nose gets too cold, move into the Park Centre to watch a jaws of life demonstration with the Manitoulin Fire Fund, and get some winter safety tips for your fur babies. Stick around for the delicious hot lunch, too.

Calling all Potter-heads! The library is showing Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on Saturday, February 18th. Show starts at 7pm, admission is free. Check out the Facebook page for more information and trailers.

Happy birthday to Heather S. who turns 29 on Wednesday. We hope you have a lovely day! David H. celebrated his 29th in grand style with a 7-layer cake. Team Fergmeijer appreciates that a slice was saved for us!

There’s been a lot of grey weather lately, but if you follow rodent-based weather predictions, Canada is in for an early spring, so there is hope.

Don’t forget about the Kagawong Canine Society meetings every Sunday at 1pm at the dog park! Come for the play time, stay for the slobbery kisses.

We have the Euchre results for the last two weeks. The last game of January saw Linda taking ladies’ high, Ted taking men’s high, Doris was ladies’ loner, and Deanna was men’s loner. Candy took the low prize, and Graham went home with the special prize that shall not be named.
On February 1st, the results were: Ladies’ high - Sheila; men’s high - Graham; ladies’ lone - Sally; men’s lone - Graham/Ken; low prize - Ria; special prize - Theresa. Come out Wednesday nights to the Park Centre to take part in the fun.

Our final thought: Even skunks celebrate Valentine’s Day. In fact, they are some of the most scent-imental animals. Have a great week!

Yesterday was Groundhog Day. To celebrate, Team Fergmeijer watched the Bill Murray movie where the day repeats over and over again. We decided that they should announce a sequel to it, and then just re-release the original.
