June 10, 2016

Beware that the end of the school year is quickly approaching. It’s that time of year when random happy dances break out at work or in the middle of the street. And the students are excited, too!

Got old electronics or batteries piling up? Now’s your chance to get rid of them in an eco-friendly way! Manitoulin Secondary School’s Go Green committee is holding an e-waste collection tomorrow (June 11th) from 9-3pm at the high school. The committee is also having a plant sale, so be sure to check it out. If you can’t make it Saturday, you can also drop off your electronics June 13-16 from 3-5pm, or another time by appointment. Contact Mrs. Bauer at the high school (705-368-7000) for more information.

After dropping your e-waste off and stocking up on plants, why not wrap up the day with a roast pork dinner at the Park Centre? Saturday night is a fundraising dinner and silent auction in support of Strawberry Point Christian Camp. Nothing says ‘be good to the planet’ quite like eating in a group, therefore minimizing electricity and water use. Though if eating out is good for the environment, that makes Team Fergmeijer Eco-Warriors!

The next movie night is Saturday, June 18 at the library. Be sure to check the Billings Library Facebook page for more details! Show starts at 7pm and admission is free.

A very happy 29th birthday goes out to Audrey who celebrates on Sunday. Have a great day!
The Kagawong Folk/Roots Collective has a couple of performances coming up in Mindemoya on June 18 (7:30pm at the Mindemoya United Church), and Gore Bay on June 25 (7:30pm at the Lyons Memorial United Church). Tickets are $10 at the door, and light snacks and beverages will be provided. Come out and join the fun!

Registration is now open for River School - a partnership between 4elements Living Arts and Manitoulin Streams to deliver a series of summer programs for kids and adults along the Kagawong River. Come prepared to get your feet wet and your hands dirty! For more information, or to register, phone 705-282-0444 or email patricia@4elementslivingarts.org.

Some dates to mark on your calendar: EDC Father’s Day pancake breakfast on Sunday June 19th; Anglican Church yard sale and Recreation Committee car wash on Saturday July 2nd; the Billings Library Book & Bake Sale on Wednesday, July 6th. Whew!

Euchre is running each Wednesday night at 7pm at the Park Centre and everyone is welcome to come out for a hand. Last week’s results: Ladies’ high - Susan; Men’s high Don; Ladies’ lone - Linda; Men’s lone - Fred; Booby prize - Doris; Door prize - Don.

As the days continue getting longer and we stay up later, remember, if we were not meant to have midnight snacks, there wouldn’t be a little light in the fridge.
