May 7, 2021

This week, we at Team Fergmeijer feel it is of momumental importance to take a mom-ent to appreciate all the mothers out there. On this mom-entous day the Team would like to formally recognize that we really hit the motherload when it comes to moms. Our moms are like no m-other. On the toughest days we still hear your voice in our heads, always telling us to do the right thing. Kind of like an internal momologue. Although between the two of us, we can’t fold a fitted sheet, we still think we turned out pretty darn well. Southern Mom and Manitoulin Mom, thank you for giving us life, and for not taking it away during our teenage years. We love you loads! Speaking of, can you do our laundry?

Kagawong residents on the Municipal Water System: Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) will be flushing the water lines on May 17 - 18. If there is any discoloration in your water, leave it running until it is clear.

The Billings Public Works Department has been busy! Brand new planter boxes and benches will be popping up at the Small Craft Basin as well as around town. Would you like to help fill these new planters with a variety of flowers? Contact Linda (jferguson@manitoulin.net) if you are interested in working with the Late Bloomers.

With summer just around the corner, the Old Mill Heritage Centre is getting ready for a Victoria long weekend opening! You won’t want to miss the new Empress of Ireland exhibit. Check out the Old Mill Heritage Centre’s Facebook page for more details.

Manitoulin Family Resources has free Early ON activity kits for children up to 6 years old. There are adventure supplies, and weekly challenges for prizes. This month there’s even a surprise gift for Mom! Email earlyon@mfresources.net or text (705)302-1058 to get your kit today!

The library’s free GOOD IN EVERY GRAIN kits were such a hit that we’ve placed a second order with Grain Farmers of Ontario. The kits include two different types of grain seed, pot, soil, colouring pages and information booklets. A great educational bundle for a wide range of ages. Contact the library (billingslibrary@vianet.ca) to reserve yours today and arrange for contactless pick-up.

Are you between the ages of 14 and 25? Do you have an interest in storytelling, performance, writing and connecting with nature? Would you like to share and learn stories about the Kagawong River? 4elements Living Arts invites you to join Theatre Maker Lisa Hamalainen and Anishinaabe/Onkwehón:we Cultural Coordinator Shelba Deer for two weeks of creative exploration along the Kagawong River Trail! A great opportunity to connect with nature, learn about community and gain performance experience. Space is limited for this free initiative, and early registration is encouraged. Please email kagawongriverstories@4elementslivingarts.org for information and registration, or phone 705-282-0444.

Throughout the roads construction project, there will be updates every two weeks on the township website (http://billinstwp.ca) and the township Facebook page. According to the latest township newsletter, the project is currently well ahead of schedule! Look for another public information session to be held in June, pending project conditions.

One half of Team Fergmiejer asked her mom what it’s like to have the best daughter in the world. She replied, “I don’t know, you’d have to ask Grandma.” Have a great week!
