May 14, 2021

Quarantine has been tough on a lot of relationships. We have a friend who just broke up with his girlfriend Loraine. She found out he was seeing another girl, Claire Lee. He perked up relatively quickly saying, “Silver lining, I can see Claire Lee now, Lorraine is gone!”

Next week (May 17-18) the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) will be flushing the water lines. If you are on the Kagawong water system and notice any discoloration in your water, leave it running until it is clear.

A very happy birthday goes out to Sherri C who turns 29 on Monday. We hope you have a wild time celebrating. Just remember, “It’s my birthday” is not a valid legal defense.

A reminder that with the provincial lockdown, the Municipal office is closed to the public. Most staff are working remotely to provide municipal services via telephone and email; however, telephone response time may be delayed. Staff email addresses are available on our website at www.billingstwp.ca. All council meetings are being held via Zoom meeting (including the one scheduled for Monday at 7:30pm). Contact the office (tmills@billingstwp.ca) for the link to attend.

Have you ever considered that Zoom meetings are just modern day seances? “There’s someone who wants to join us.” “Angela, are you there?”  “Can you hear us?”

Completion of the parking lot near the tree maze, including green space and butterfly garden has been postponed until 2022, given the existing activity in that vicinity related to Main St. reconstruction. Check with the township website and facebook page for updates on all the projects in the community, including any closures or detours related to current road works.

The Old Mill Heritage Centre has been busy putting together their new Empress of Ireland exhibit for the May long weekend grand opening. Check out the Old Mill Heritage Centre’s Facebook page for more details.

We saw an ad that said “Radio for sale, $5. Volume stuck on full.” We thought to ourselves, we can’t turn that down!

The library has more GOOD IN EVERY GRAIN seed kits arriving this week! The kits include two different types of grain seed, pot, soil, colouring pages and information booklets. A great educational bundle for a wide range of ages. Contact the library (billingslibrary@vianet.ca) to reserve yours today and arrange for contactless pick-up.

Check the Public Health Sudbury & District website for updated vaccine information. Individuals with at-risk health conditions, essential workers, and adults 40 years and older can now book an appointment for the jab!

When we are able to travel again, Team Fergmeijer has settled on Hawaii as our first destination! Though we were wondering if they allow loud laughing there, or just a low ‘ha’?

4elements Living Arts invites 14-25 year olds to join Theatre Maker Lisa Hamalainen and Anishinaabe/Onkwehón:we Cultural Coordinator Shelba Deer for two weeks of creative exploration along the Kagawong River Trail! A great opportunity to connect with nature, learn about community and gain performance experience. Space is limited for this free initiative, and early registration is encouraged. Please email kagawongriverstories@4elementslivingarts.org for information and registration, or phone 705-282-0444.

Final thoughts for the week: Lockdown may end by May end, or may not end by May end as it may extend. But May will end by May end, even if lockdown may not end. Have a great week!
