May 5, 2017

Yesterday was Star Wars day, where geeks everywhere greeted one another with the phrase “May the 4th be with you.” Today is the slightly less well known, but no less geeky, “Revenge of the 5th.” Read on to discover more Star Wars facts! If you are a Star Wars fan, these ARE the jokes you are looking for.

Dust off your dancing shoes and come on out to the Spring Wing Ding tomorrow night! Bring your swing and be the king of the fling! 8pm until midnight at the Park Centre. Tickets: $15 per person; all funds raised go to support the Angel Bus. Don’t forget to check out the impressive list of door prizes on the Kagawong Facebook page, too!

We don’t seem to have any birthdays to announce this week, but if you have a friend or family member you would like to embarrass… uh… honour, with a mention in this column, send us a name and date via email.

Why did Star Wars episodes 4, 5, 6 come before episodes 1, 2, 3? Because in charge of planning, Yoda was.

The library continues to show pre-dvd release movies. Check out their Facebook page for upcoming show dates, titles and trailers. The next movie night will be Saturday, May 13th - bring the kids out to see the animated feature Ballerina (aka Leap!); show starts at 7pm and admission is free. And don’t forget that the library is also offering a variety of board games for all ages, available for playing in the library or checking out for a week of fun at home.

The Economic Development Committee has launched it’s newest initiative, the Story Trail writing challenge! If you are in a relationship with someone who doesn’t like Star Wars, then you are looking for love in Alderaan places.

Manitoulin Secondary is hosting a Relay for Life event June 2-3. Teams of any size walk through the night to raise money that goes toward cancer research, prevention, and outreach. Check out http://relayforlife.ca/manitoulinss for information on registering a team or making a donation.

What is a Jedi’s favourite toy? A yo-yo, duh.

Team Fergmeijer is deeply grateful for the many shops and businesses in town that remained open over the long, cold winter. Now that spring is here, we are very excited to see some of the seasonal businesses getting ready to re-open this month. Chocolate, and paddle boards, and African art, oh my!

Finally, local Star Wars cosplayer Jamie Ward wrote to us saying “This is my favourite: Why did Darth Vader go to the music store? To find the hidden rebel bass, yo.”
