The long weekend has arrived! Team Fergmeijer is looking for photo proof of intrepid Kagawongians kicking off deck and BBQ season with a dip in the lake. Who will be the first?? Or have you already been in?!

Stop in to the Old Mill Heritage Centre this weekend to see the new exhibit on Lester B Pearson! Staff and volunteers have done a phenomenal job, and it’s an exhibit you won’t want to miss.

Living in a small town, you would think we would know everyone’s birthdays, but some people are more private than others. Which means we need your help to embar… er… honour them here in the column! Drop us a line with a name and birthday to see your favourite people mentioned here.

The library continues to show pre-dvd release movies. Check out their Facebook page for upcoming show dates, titles and trailers. The next movie night will be Saturday, May 27 at 7pm - come on out and see The Shack (rated PG-13). And don’t forget that the library is also offering a variety of board games for all ages, available for playing in the library or checking out for a week of fun at home.

The Economic Development Committee has launched it’s newest initiative, the Story Trail writing challenge! Submit your short story (500 words max) about Kagawong or Manitoulin for a chance to win a cash prize. In addition, submissions will be curated for display along the river trail as well as in shops around town. Submission date is coming soon: May 30th! Set Saturday, June 10 aside to see Jay Aymar, “one of the hardest travelling singer-songwriters this country has to offer,” at the Main Street Café! Tickets are $20, and seating is limited. Contact the Café for more information.

Manitoulin Secondary is hosting a Relay for Life event June 2-3. It’s not too late to register! Teams of any size walk through the night to raise money that goes toward cancer research, prevention, and outreach. Mystery Euchre continues to happen Wednesday evenings at the Park Centre. If you know who won this past week, drop us a line!
