November 18, 2016

Team Fergmeijer was up bright and early today to gather our news for the column. Of course, this time of year ‘bright’ is a bit of an overstatement. Welcome to the time of year when you leave for work in the dark, spend all the daylight hours inside, then come home just in time for it to be pitch black again.

On the upside, this is also the beginning of the season of tinsel, twinkle lights and mulled cider! Launching us into the the festive season, Christmas in Kagawong kicks off tonight with vendors at the Park Centre and a turkey dinner - sorry to disappoint the French Canadians, but we were misinformed about the tourtiere. Still, nothing tastes better than a meal you don’t have to prepare, or clean up, yourself! The fun continues over the whole weekend. In addition to the vendors you can check out the silent auction, have a nosh at the luncheon and get your picture taken with Santa. See the ad in the paper or the Christmas in Kagawong Facebook event for more details.

You’ve heard that Kagawong is a magical place… well it’s true! Our observant readers will surely have noticed that all the scarecrows have been transformed into Christmas trees! Keep an eye out as more decorations pop up around the village throughout the month of December.

It’s a bird. It’s a plane. No, it’s ……. SUPERMAN! That’s right, MBB and Susie have already signed up for the Kagawong Community Christmas concert on Saturday, December 10th. The family-friendly event will start at 7pm; admission is by donations of nonperishables or cash. All proceeds will go to Manitoulin Family Resources. If you are interested in taking park on-stage email Team Fergmeijer, make contact through Facebook, or call Mike at 282-8355. As always, talent is completely optional.

The library is pleased to present the movie The Wild Life, playing on the big screen next Saturday night (Nov. 29th). Show starts at 7pm. Free admission as always! Check out the Kagawong Facebook page for trailers and more information.

Happy birthday to the woman who puts the M in MBB; Mary is turning 29 today!

Euchre is back up and running at the Park Centre Wednesday nights at 7:30pm, with tournaments every third Wednesday of the month. Team Fergmeijer can only assumes there is a winner of some sort. If you are in the know, send the results our way!

There was a turkey tragedy last week, when one of the KGB met an untimely demise on Maple Drive (turkeys are notoriously bad at playing Chicken). Regardless of how you feel about the Kagawong Gobble Brigade or any other wildlife, please drive carefully. You might not notice one less turkey, but you will definitely notice the grill, bumper and headlight they will take out if you hit them with your car.
