April 6, 2018

Who needs April showers when you can have April snowballs? Seems everyone is feeling tired these days… perhaps it’s because they’ve just finished a long, 31 day March?

If you came by the Park Centre last Saturday, you might have caught of glimpse of the Easter Bunny hippity-hopping through the trees! The annual Kagawong Easter egg hunt was possibly the best one yet! At least 40 youngsters, along with their grownups, came out to seek and destroy a whopping number of hidden eggs. Thanks to the Rec Committee for organizing it, and to all the community members who came out to take part in it.

Happy birthday to Sharon A who, as of Sunday, has brightened up our year for the 29th year in a row!

Our heart-felt sympathies go out to the families and friends of Dave Montgomery who passed away last week. He will be missed by so many in the community.

Mac ‘n’ Brew is back! As a kick off to the Green Living Expo, join the Billings Go Green Committee and the Recreation Committee on Friday, April 20 at the Park Centre. Doors open at 5:30pm, with supper served at 6:15pm. $25 gets you a homemade mac ‘n’ cheese supper, a beer or a glass of wine, and a talk by a guest speaker. The Green Living Expo continues at the Park Centre, Saturday, April 21! At noon, check out a Show & Shine of a variety of electric and hybrid vehicles. From 1pm - 3pm, there will be a variety of booths and speakers on various Green topics. Lunch and snacks available - stay tuned for more details!

There has been an overwhelming response to the Team Fergmeijer Sandhill Crane Challenge this year. Rumour has it an actual trophy might be in the works for next year! The first annual Team Fergmeijer Sandhill Cooing Contest brought out a small but dedicated group on April 1st. Marcel B from Maple Point, and L.Z. from Evansville (who prefers to remain anonymous) both made solid attempts at the prize, however Marcel was disqualified for using a concertina and microphone, while L.Z. was disqualified as she refused to be identified in the column.

Speaking of awards, Billings Town Council is looking for possible nominees for 'Senior of the Year!" Submit the person's name with a brief description of why you think they deserve this honour to the township at: http://billingstwp.ca/contact/

Beginning this week, the Billings landfill reverts back to their regular hours. Stop by to chat with Dennis and deliver your trash (or pick up some treasures at the Kagawong Mall) Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm - 8pm, Saturdays from 10am - 6pm, or Sundays from 1pm - 6pm.

The Manitoulin Community Choir presents their spring concert on Saturday, April 28 at 7:30pm at the Kagawong Park Centre. Admission is $10, or $20 per family. Don’t miss it!

Just a reminder that the library has an ever-growing collection of board games for you to check out and enjoy at home. We take advantage of it on a regular basis. Yesterday, one half of Team Fergmeijer was out walking and spilled a bag of the Scrabble letters on the road. Local board game enthusiast Jamie Ward happened to walk by at the same time, and called out: “What’s the word on the street, yo?” Have a great week!
