March 2, 2022

Here at Team Fergmeijer, we are very musically inclined. Well, one of us is musically inclined. The other is more of a fan of being reclined. Regardless, we were both excited to hear that several classic songs from the 50s are being revised to keep up with the changing lives of the baby boomers. Do any of these sound familiar? Herman’s Hermits - Mrs. Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Walker. The Bee Gees - How Can You Mend A Broken Hip? Bobby Darin - Splish Splash, I Was Having A Flash. Ringo Starr - I’ll Get By With A Little Help From Depends. The Commodores - Once, Twice, Three Times To The Bathroom. Marvin Gaye - Heard It From The Grape Nuts. Leo Sayer - You Make Me Feel Like Napping. Willie Nelson - On The Commode Again. Procol Harem - A Whiter Shade Of Hair. Johnny Nash - I Can’t See Clearly Now. Helen Reddy - I Am Woman Hear Me Snore. Abba - Denture Queen.

Team Fergmeijer is ever so pleased to announce the most exciting piece of news to come about since March 2020: The Billings Landfill is now open on Saturdays!! From now until March 31, you can visit the Kagawong Mall Tuesdays & Thursdays from 2pm-6pm, Saturdays from 1pm-4pm, and Sundays from 10am-4pm. Beginning in April and lasting through the summer, Saturday hours will be extended from 10am-4pm.

Happy birthday to Brooke C who celebrated her big day last week. She’s still got a ways to go to hit 29, but we are sure she had a fabulous day anyway. Some summer visitors also celebrated over the last week: Maddy M, and her father Steve S, both celebrated birthdays in the last week. Hard to believe they are both 29 years old! Maddy looks entirely too young to be that old, and Steve looks…. Uhm… happy birthday, Steve! Also celebrating is Slade who has a solid 28 years to go before we can wish him a happy 29th.

The township office remains closed to the public with the staff working remotely. The next Town Council meeting will be March 21 at 7:30pm. Agendas and minutes for the various township committee meetings can be found on the township website: http://billingstwp.ca .

The shortest month of the year is over, and sadly, so is our Short Poems for a Short Month challenge! We’re closing out with a classic!

I think that I shall never see

A poem as lovely as a turkey

Especially the ones that roam

So close to my Kagawong home

Friends of the Billings Library is looking for members! FOBL is a group that functions independently of the township and of the library itself. It raises money to supplement and enhance the library collections. If you are interested, contact the library (billingslibrary@vianet.ca   705-282-2944).

The Kagawong Fitness Centre is open again, and Plucky, the KFC mascot, is so excited! Please contact the town at tmills@billingstwp.ca for information on membership.

Did you know that yours truly were in talks to be the songwriters for a very famous band? They were blown away by our songs. They said we should be poets! Poets, firefighters, accountants - basically anything but songwriters. Have a great week!
