July 13, 2018

As some of you may have heard, half of Team Fergmeijer is off exploring South Africa. We are pleased to present a first-hand account of how life in South Africa differs from life in Kagawong…

We’d be lion if we said South Africa was anything like Northern Ontario. Games of all sorts are popular, but nobody plays euchre here because there are too many cheetahs. It's nice not to have to be worried about wild turkeys roaming everywhere, though we would be hippocrits if we didn't admit the many baboons wandering around here weren't enough to giraffe you crazy. It seems where you are in the world is irrelephant; there are always going to be pests to deal with. One of the big surprises was when a friend on the trip celebrated her 30th birthday. That NEVER happens in Kagawong!

Speaking of birthdays...many happy returns to Ardis F on Tuesday as she turns 29!

There is currently a total fire ban on in the township. No fires, please!

The market is up and running every Wednesday from 10am until 3pm in the pavillion. Stop in to check out local artisans’ wares, as well as tasty baked goods and local produce.

Best wishes go to Mike and Karen as they embark on new adventures off-island. We hope to see you again soon! Along the same line, the number of Theijsmeijers residing in Kagawong is tripling this week - welcome Arik, Melanie, Ethan, and Andrew!

July 20th and 21st make sure to clear your schedule, because Summerfest will keep the whole family hoppin’! Friday night, are you brave enough to watch the movie Jaws while dangling your toes in Mudge Bay? Bring your blanket, chair or floaty to the main beach for the 9pm start. Saturday, take part in all the amazing activities around town and then take in some music at dusk with Flathead Ford when as they rock the dock.

Manitoulin Family Resources now presents Early Learning playgroups throughout the year at the Park Centre! Families with children aged 0-6 are invited to stop in July 23, August 6 and August 20, from 9am-11:30am, for songs, stories, snacks, and learning through play. Contact 368-3400, ext. 1, for more information.

Have you got a great idea for a name for the former St. Paul’s on the Hill as it is reimagined into an entertainment centre? Drop a note to the town office with your best ideas.

Manitoulin Tennis Club is pausing for a few weeks while the courts at MSS get repainted. Any students looking for volunteer hours can contact Chris at 705-968-0404.

Have a great week!
