March 9, 2018

For those time travel fans out there, this weekend is the time you look forward to twice a year. Daylight saving time has us all setting our clocks forward on Sunday. Of course, for some people, this time of year is a bit like every new version of Facebook: no one asks for the change, it messes everybody up, and just when we finally get used to it, they change the darn thing again!

The Billings library continues to offer computer classes each Tuesday and Thursday this month. Next week tackle some of the more advanced elements Excel. Classes run from 1:00 - 3:30. Bring your own laptop, or use one of the library computers. Spaces for all sessions are limited, so contact Bob at bobcat100@gmail.com or 705-662-8215 to pre-register.

In her continuing efforts to disprove the ‘blondes have more fun’ adage, Susan S was invited to Toronto to meet Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor! She represented 4elements Living Arts and their community partners in accepting a 2017 Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Heritage Award  for excellence in conservation for their ‘Billings Connections Trail: Nature. Art. Heritage’ program. Way to represent Billings!

The first signs of spring (Tuesday’s snow notwithstanding) mark the start of the annual Team Fergmeijer Sandhill Crane Challenge! Who will be the first to spot (or hear!) the melodic coo of the Sandhill Crane?? Email us at kagawong@live.ca to report your sighting.

Last Saturday, the Kagawong Folk Roots Collective played to a packed house in Gore Bay (at least half of which was from Kagawong!). Thanks to everyone who came out to support Lyons Memorial United Church!

Tai Chi and Zumba are on hiatus this coming week, as teachers and students enjoy March Break. Regularly scheduled Park Centre activities (Tai Chi on Tuesdays at 6:30pm and Zumba on Thursdays at 7pm) start up again the week of March 19.

Local environmental enthusiast Jamie Ward says “think GREEN, yo!” The Billings Go Green Committee invites you to take part in the Plastic Purge Challenge! Check out their blog (https://gogreenkagawong.wordpress.com/) for more information. Also, the Green Living event is just around the corner! The committee is looking for people who are doing cool green things to present. If you’ve got any suggestions, contact a Go Green committee member.

We’re pretty sure the hour we lose this weekend was the hour we intended to spend at the gym this week. All well. Maybe next year.
