Thank goodness for Hallowe’en - all of a sudden, the cobwebs in our houses are decorations! One week a year poor housekeeping pays off.

St. John’s Anglican Church hosted a fantastic Gospel night last Saturday, featuring the Kagawong Folk Roots Collective. The local quintet played to a packed house, including favourites such as “I Saw the Light,” “Wade in the Water,” and “In My Hour of Darkness.” They didn’t play a skeleton’s favourite song though… Bad to the Bone.

Euchre is back up and running at the Park Centre Wednesday nights at 7:30pm, with tournaments every third Wednesday of the month. Grab a partner and try your luck. Speaking of cards, what do goblins mail home while on vacation? Ghostcards!

What do you call a big fat pumpkin? A plumpkin! Tomorrow (Saturday, October 29th) marks the return of the annual BYOP (Bring Your Own Plumpkin) community pumpkin carving party! Stop by the market pavilion that morning, pumpkin in hand, to carve with friends and leave the mess for someone else to clean up. Hot drinks and games for the kids included! It’s going to be a frightfully good time!

Happy birthday to Rachel B who celebrated 29 trips around the sun last week, and to Meranda N who has not quite reached the big 2-9, but who we’re sure has big plans for her big day this weekend. What’s the favourite game at ghosts’ birthday parties? Hide and shriek!

Why didn’t the skeleton go outside at night? Because he didn’t have the guts! But that doesn’t mean you have to stay home tomorrow night - the next library movie is Bad Moms (rated R). The show starts at 7:00pm and as always, admission is free! The library will also be open on Monday night handing out candy and other goodies to trick-or-treaters who stop in.

Kagawongians are reminded that in addition to candy, some ghosts and ghouls might be on the lookout for canned goods and other non-perishables as there are some great fundraisers on the go at this time of year.

The Old Mill Heritage Centre is busy preparing for Remembrance Day commemorations November 1st through 11th. Be sure to visit the Old Mill in November for moving and memorable military displays.

What do you call two spiders that just got married? Newlywebbed! Speaking of the web, ever wondered how many times Jamie Ward has been mentioned in our column? You’ll find an online archive of all our columns at http://teamfergmeijer.blogspot.ca/. Check it out, and leave us some feedback!

Tired of all our spook-tacular jokes? Fear not - Christmas in Kagawong is just around the corner. More on that next week! Team Fergmeijer already has our gift-giving planned. In lieu of gifts, we’ve decided to give everyone our opinion.

Rain on, rain off. Rain on, rain off. Rain on, rain off. Make up your mind Mother Nature! There was so much rain at some points last week, people in town reported seeing Willa out walking her fish. Good thing it was on a leash - we wouldn’t want to see it get eaten by a drizzly bear.

St. John’s Anglican Church is hosting an evening of gospel music, featuring the Kagawong Folk/Roots Collective, Saturday, October 22, at 7:30pm. Come on out, bring your sweet tooth (there will be homemade treats for sale!) and your good shoes - there’s going to be a lot of toe-tapping!

Happy birthday to Ken F, Neely P, and Joanne T. All three are celebrating 29 years this week!

Happy anniversary to Team Fergmeijer! We’ve been finishing each other’s sentences and stealing each other’s sheep for the past ten years. That’s right, dear reader. This column has only given you a small taste of the shenanigans we have gotten up to over the last decade. The question is, is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Attention all overworked and underappreciated mothers out there: the next library movie is Bad Moms (rated R). Saturday October 29th, the show starts at 7:00 and as always, admission is free!

Many people from away have asked us what it’s like to live in Kagawong. It’s hard to pin it down exactly, but there are some things that stand out. For example, if you get into trouble and your parents know about it before you even get home, you might be from Kagawong. If your idea of a great first date is taking someone mudding, you might be from Kagawong. If you live two doors down from a police officer and have one across the street and meet up with another one at the dog park, you might be from Kagawong. And if you plan on attending all of the pancake breakfasts and Burt’s Beef suppers throughout the summer, but the doctor tells you that if you do so, you’d probably need a forklift to carry you from place to place, you might be from Kagawong.

In case you haven’t heard, Kagawong has made the leap to BIG CITY STATUS with our very own stoplight! Commuters between the Candy Corner and the Kagawong mall can expect delays for the foreseeable future. Due to the large amount of wildlife in the area lately, motorists are reminded to remain in their vehicles when stopped. The last thing we need is a rogue turkey joyriding in a minivan.

Speaking of animals, there appears to be a severe decline in the number of crows in Kagawong this year. Experts in the field are attributing this to significant increases in the scarecrow population around town! Be sure to take a walk through the village and find as many as you can - Team Fergmeijer has it on good authority that there are between 5 and 40 of them. Unfortunately, the scarecrows seem ineffective against the KGB.

St. John’s Anglican Church is hosting an evening of gospel music, featuring the Kagawong Folk/Roots Collective, Saturday, October 22. Team Fergmeijer isn’t positive of the time, but our clever readers know to check Facebook or the community sign at the main intersection in town for more details.

Euchre is back up and running at the Park Centre Wednesday nights at 7:30pm, with tournaments every third Wednesday of the month. That means there’s a tournament this coming Wednesday! Break out your best poker face and grab a friend for a chance to win Extreme Euchre Champion of Kagawong (EECK!) bragging rights.

A little bird (actually it was a green chicken) told us that Jef T is celebrating his 29th birthday on Sunday. Yay!

Cold weather getting on your nerves? Come to the Billings Library tomorrow for a hot new film: Nerve! 7pm on Oct. 15 - admission is by donation. Check the Kagawong Facebook page to see info on all upcoming movies.

The Heritage Centre is busy preparing for Remembrance Day commemorations. Be sure to visit the Old Mill in November for moving and memorable displays.

Next week is Ontario Waste Reduction Week, and the Billings Go Green Committee is encouraging everyone to do their part. Check out the committee’s blog at gogreenkagawong.wordpress.com for waste-saving ideas and inspiration. On that note, in an effort to not waste paper, we’re going to end our column here. Have a great week!

Happy Thanksgiving!

What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter? Pumpkin pi.
What do you get when the Recreation Committee lets loose with pumpkins, hay bales and cornstalks? A FABULOUSLY fashionable village! Be sure to stop into Kagawong to see us in all our autumnal glory!

Kudos to the 4elements crew for organizing and hosting the Elemental Festival last week. Activities of all sorts drew crowds from all walks of life, and from all over the province. One of the highlights was the Saturday night performance of Jamie Ward and friends. Jamie had the crowd tapping their feet and singing aloud to fan favourites and original pieces throughout the show. The president of the Jamie Ward Fan Club was overheard saying, “It was an amazing experience, yo.”

Folks at the Candy Corner celebrated the return of Luna last week, after her escapade across town. Rumour has it, she was cavorting with the Kagawong Gobble Brigade.

Speaking of the Kagawong turkeys, they’ve been spotted recently behaving bizarrely and rolling in the mud. If Team Fergmeijer were turkeys, we'd be doing everything we could to taste terrible right now, too.

Mary and Heather would like to thank everyone who contributed to their fundraising for the CIBC Run for the Cure! Between them, they raised over $2000 to go toward breast cancer research, treatment, and outreach. Well done, ladies!

Happy birthday to John B, who celebrated turning 29 last week! Rachel M is also turning 29 but we promised not to tell when, while Jamie F is celebrating today - extra pumpkin pie for the lot of you!

The library will be continuing to show movies on the big screen throughout the fall, with the next movie being shown Saturday, October 15. Check the Kagawong Facebook page to see info on all upcoming movies.

Welcome to the Scotts who are visiting this weekend from the Niagara region. Team Fergmeijer can smell the pumpkin pancakes from here!

We’ll close this week, with a traditional Pilgrim proverb: We hope your turkey is moist and your stuffing is fluffy, and when you're done eating you'll be nice and stuffy.
